Peggy was a very active Fellow Member of this Society, and also of The Society of Botanical Artists; she was always the oldest person on Receiving Day, when the artworks for the Annual Exhibition are received, last exhibiting in 2009.
Peggy grew up in Wallington, Surrey. After the war she married Don Dawe, moving to Purley, Surrey, and they had two daughters - Sarah and Elizabeth. Comparatively late in life, Peggy followed her twin passions of botany and art by specialising in botanical painting. She won a gold artistic medal in one of the Alpine Garden Society shows, and her paintings were exhibited throughout Europe and regularly at the RHS shows in London, winning prestigious medals. Some of her paintings have also been published on greeting cards, and her line drawings illustrate The Gardener’s Guide to growing Hardy Geraniums (Bath & Jones 1994). She celebrated her 100th birthday in September 2024.
