Having initially trained as a medical doctor prior to a career in art, design and teaching, William has always been fascinated by plants and especially their medicinal uses. Since 2008 he has been deeply involved with botanical illustration, a perfect combination of art and science. His father served as Master of the Society of Apothecaries, so CFG has long held a special place in his heart and he was very honoured to become a painting member of the CPGFS in 2016. He also illustrates rare plants for the National Trust at Nymans near his home in Sussex and is newly appointed an artist in residence at Munstead Wood. In December 2023 he was elected a Society of Botanical Artists Fellow. The SBA has recently awarded him a grant to study and paint the wild flowers on the verges of Sussex.
