Ashley Knowles is a botanical illustrator and printmaker originally from The Bahamas, who has lived and worked in the UK for nearly a decade. Her academic background includes an MSc in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology from Oxford University, a perspective that deeply informs her artistic interest in the cultural, historical, and ecological narratives of plants. She holds both a Certificate and an Advanced Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) Diploma.
Her understanding of the historical and medicinal context of plants has been significantly shaped by herbalist courses taken at the Chelsea Physic Garden, and she seeks to contribute to the Gardens legacy by recording species of cultural and medicinal significance. Ashley is currently a member of the Spike Island printmaking studio in Bristol, where she continues to refine her technique in relief printmaking alongside her formal botanical studies.
